Accounting Integration Partnerships: Marketplace requirements and growth opportunities

Every ERP and accounting platform sets its own technical prerequisites, partner requirements and listing conditions. This guide walks every system Maesn supports: what each one asks for before you go live, what a marketplace listing costs and what the partnership gives back.

The problem

Two ways a platform lets you become a partner

A working integration is the starting point of the growth question, and the answer sits in the partner programme behind it. Every ERP and accounting platform runs its own, with its own technical prerequisites, its own partner requirements and its own listing conditions, so the same product reaches ten platforms on ten different timelines.

Three questions decide the timeline for any one of them:

  1. What are the technical prerequisites before you go live with external customers?
  2. What partner-led growth and co-marketing does the platform offer?
  3. Is there an app marketplace, and what does a listing in it require?

Across every system Maesn supports, the answers group into two setups. Where the platform asks for a registration, you create your own app in its developer environment and share the credentials with Maesn, which then carries the technical side including unified webhooks and unified authentication.

Depending on the platform, that involves a partner application, its terms of service and sometimes a technical review or certification.

Where the platform asks for nothing, authentication runs on API keys your customers generate themselves, and you can go live immediately.

The more demanding half is also the more valuable half. The platforms with a structured application are the ones with marketplace listings, referral routes and co-marketing worth having, which is why the timeline is a strategy question and not an administrative one.

How Maesn solves it

Whose name the customer approves

Maesn enables your growth through integrations and does not position itself between you and your customers. The app listed in the marketplace carries your name and your logo, your brand appears during authentication and you approach the platform about co-marketing directly.

This matters because most unified API providers take the opposite approach. They connect your customers through their own app registration, so their name appears on the consent screen and in the marketplace instead of yours.

It is presented as convenience and it costs you three things: you build no brand recognition in the ecosystem, you generate no backlinks to your own product and you cannot pursue co-marketing or referral activity as a named partner.

Registering the app yourself turns those three into compounding advantages:

  • Marketplace visibility with your name and logo in front of the platform’s customer base.
  • SEO value from backlinks that point at your product from a high-authority listing.
  • Partnership access to co-marketing, referral programmes and platform events as a recognised partner.

The integrations you build through Maesn are yours and so are the partnerships. Maesn carries the technical complexity underneath them.

The registration decides three things at once: whose name the customer approves, whose logo the marketplace carries and who the platform treats as the partner for co-marketing and referrals.

The registration route decides what the customer sees. An app registered by your provider shows their name at both moments; an app you register through Maesn shows yours.
What you get

Partner privileges on four platforms

On several systems a Maesn integration gives you access you would not have as a direct integrator, because the qualification already exists. That covers accelerated app approvals, coverage under existing certifications and API scopes that otherwise need a separate process.

Where an existing certification shortens the process

DATEV. A direct integration runs a formal onboarding with DATEV consultants, a technical audit and fees above 1.500 euro plus VAT. Maesn customers go through a certification run by Maesn in agreement with DATEV, and can still become a DATEV partner in their own name.

Lexware Office. Voucher management and financial account access sit behind a bilateral qualification with Lexware. Maesn is a qualified Lexware partner, so customers reach that functionality in a supported process and gain their own qualification along the way.

Exact Online. Apps pass an App Centre review before they connect to external customer accounts, which delays sandbox access. Maesn holds an approved sandbox, so development starts on day one.

Visma eAccounting and Spiris. Production access needs a registration in the Spiris Partner Programme, and Maesn accelerates it. Spiris is the same target system under its Swedish brand name, so one qualification covers both.

Where a privilege applies to a system you are targeting, it is repeated in that system’s entry below.

What you get

A development sandbox for every system

Testing before you go live needs a sandbox for every system you connect to, and not every platform supplies one. Where the platform offers a free environment you use it directly. For the 7 systems that do not, Maesn provides one at no additional cost:

  • DATEV Unternehmen Online
  • DATEV Rechnungswesen
  • Twinfield
  • Dinero
  • Abacus AbaConnect
  • weclapp
  • Holded

So you have sandbox access for every supported system from day one, whatever the platform itself offers. No blocked development cycles and no waiting on a paid account to test against.

Key facts

Partner Setup Required, system by system

For these 17systems you register your own app in the platform’s developer environment and share the credentials with Maesn, which enables the full Maesn Unified API feature set. Beyond the technical setup, your own registration is what lets you manage the marketplace listing, update your marketing information and arrange co-marketing with the platform directly.

Key facts

Partner Setup Optional, system by system

These 11 systems work differently. There is no app registration in the classic sense, because authentication runs on API keys and public APIs, and your customers connect with credentials they generate in their own account settings.

Optional does not mean without opportunity. Some of these platforms hold partner-exclusive API scopes that unlock further functionality and move authentication from an API key to OAuth, and others open co-marketing once a number of active integrations is reached.

Partnership here is a commercial relationship more than a technical setup: a listing in the platform’s partner directory, with co-marketing as it develops.

What you get

Choosing which partner programmes to pursue

The partner requirements across accounting and ERP platforms are a growth decision before they are a technical checklist. The platforms that ask for the most investment, QuickBooks and Xero and DATEV, are also the ones that return the most structured distribution and marketing.

Maesn helps from both sides. We carry the technical complexity of each integration, and we help you work out which partner programmes are worth pursuing for the market you sell into and the growth you are aiming at. That includes introductions to platform partner teams where they exist, guidance on listing requirements and alignment on co-marketing.

If you want to build your partner programme on a foundation that scales, talk to the Maesn team.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is an accounting integration partner programme?

A formal arrangement between a software vendor and an ERP or accounting platform. It usually combines a developer registration, a technical review and a set of commercial terms, and it decides whether your product can appear in the platform's marketplace and take part in its referral and co-marketing programmes.

Which ERP and accounting platforms have app marketplaces?

Most of the larger ones. QuickBooks, Xero, DATEV, Exact Online, Sage, FreshBooks, FreeAgent, Business Central, Fortnox, SnelStart, Twinfield and Odoo all run one, and several smaller platforms list integrations in a directory instead. The requirements differ far more than the existence of the marketplace does.

What are the typical requirements to get listed in an accounting platform marketplace?

Three things recur: your own app registration with the platform, a technical or security review and evidence that the integration is genuinely in use. The last one is where platforms diverge most, from a single live connection at FreeAgent to more than 25 live customers plus reference interviews at DATEV.

Can I get listed in accounting and ERP marketplaces if I use Maesn?

Yes, and the listing is yours. You register your own app with the platform and share the credentials with Maesn, so the marketplace entry, the consent screen and the partner relationship all carry your name. Maesn handles the technical side behind it.

Why does Maesn not appear in the marketplaces itself?

Because the integration is your product, not ours. Registering our app instead of yours would put our name on the consent screen and in the marketplace, which would cost you the brand recognition, the backlinks and the partner status that make a listing worth having.

Does Maesn help with accounting platform partner programme applications?

Yes. Where a platform runs an individual qualification, Maesn introduces you to the partner team and supports the process, and on DATEV, Lexware Office, Exact Online and Visma eAccounting an existing Maesn certification shortens it considerably.

Which accounting platforms require sandbox access before going live?

Every serious integration wants one, and not every platform supplies it. DATEV Unternehmen Online, DATEV Rechnungswesen, Twinfield, Dinero, Abacus AbaConnect, weclapp and Holded have no free sandbox of their own, so Maesn provides one at no extra cost.

Which accounting integration partnerships offer the best growth opportunities?

The ones that ask the most. QuickBooks, Xero and DATEV run the most structured programmes and also carry the most distribution, through the QuickBooks App Store, the Xero App Store and the DATEV Marktplatz. Which of them is worth pursuing depends on the market you sell into.

Build once on the Unified API.

One integration reaches every platform in this guide, and the partner programme you pursue on top of it stays yours. When a platform rewrites its terms, it is a line in a table rather than a project.
